Overview

The "TPAR information missing" XBert checks your contact records to identify whether any suppliers are missing the key information required to comply with the Taxable Payments Annual Report (TPAR) obligations. This is especially relevant for Australian businesses in industries where contractor payments must be reported to the ATO.

What it does

XBert reviews your contacts against TPAR criteria 10 days before the report due date (28 August). It checks whether:

  • The contact is paid through bills in the financial year

  • The contact may fall under a group relevant to TPAR (e.g. “contractors”, “TPAR”)

  • Required contact details (such as ABN or address) are missing

This ensures your contact data is ready and accurate for TPAR reporting.

How it works

For businesses in Xero, XBert analyses the setup of contact groups and accounts associated with likely TPAR suppliers (based on industry and naming). It identifies those contacts missing either an ABN or valid address and flags them if they could be required for inclusion in your TPAR. The alert helps prevent late or inaccurate lodgement.

Example/Use Case

ACME Pty Ltd is a building business that contracts Pete’s Electrics for electrical work. Since ACME operates in the construction industry, it must include payments made to Pete’s Electrics in the TPAR. If Pete’s Electrics then subcontracts work to Jill the Sparky, they would also need to report those payments in their own TPAR submission.

If ACME has contact details for Pete’s Electrics that are missing an ABN or address, this XBert will alert them, helping avoid non-compliance with the ATO's TPAR requirements.

Accounting software

Xero (currently), with plans for extension to MYOB and QuickBooks.

Which countries it supports

Australia only.

Processes

This alert is part of the BAS Services – TPAR category. If you are required to submit a TPAR:

  • Review each contact flagged by this XBert

  • Ensure they have a valid ABN, business name, and address

  • Confirm they are appropriately categorised (e.g., in a "contractors" or "TPAR" contact group in Xero)

If your business does not need to lodge a TPAR based on the ATO criteria, you can choose to file this XBert.

For further guidance, consult the ATO’s TPAR reporting requirements.
